Addressing FAI’s shifting workforce needs with ISD services

The Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI) trusted PowerTrain to handle new eLearning and competency assessment integration initiatives and to modernize FAI’s mobile app.

Engaging training elements

To provide a wealth of information to enhance the civilian workforce, the Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI) trusted PowerTrain to handle new eLearning and competency assessment integration initiatives and to modernize FAI’s mobile app. PowerTrain fulfilled these initiatives by aligning competency mapping and comparative analysis with instructional systems design (ISD).

ISD services fulfilled shifting client needs

PowerTrain used a highly transparent, collaborative, and customer-centric management approach to work to set up and manage an internal and external resource pool to meet FAI’s ISD needs, staying neatly within the given budget. These ISD services ranged from typical analysis, design, develop, implement, and evaluate (ADDIE) services to graphic design and development, programming, and accessibility specialist services.

Effectively managing FAI’s ISD pool requirements necessitated a comprehensive management approach and exceptional attention to detail to deliver 20 new eLearning courses, 6 micro-learning courses, and additional learning content. PowerTrain successfully standardized learning objectives and recommended additional learning objectives to ensure FAI workforce competencies are continually maintained and enhanced.

Taking learning a step further

PowerTrain developed a competency comparative analysis between the Federal Acquisition Contracting (FAC) competencies and respective Department of Defense (DoD) competencies. Each comparative analysis report:

  • Maps the competency similarities and differences
  • Establishes and recommends standardized FAC competencies
  • Identifies the training assets required to sufficiently meet the competency requirements for FAC certification
  • Identifies and reports competencies where existing training does not sufficiently meet the competency requirements, and subsequently offers targeted solutions

Multifaceted solutions lead to comprehensive Learning Improvements

A complete project management approach promoting consistency, rigor, and quality throughout the life of the contract ensured the successful integration of FAI’s competency assessment tools and learning products into FAI’s LMS. The integration provides demonstrable benefits to leverage and build upon for robust workforce certification and training information.

On behalf of FAI, I’d like to thank the PowerTrain team for the support provided under our USALearning task order. Your team’s expertise has allowed FAI to release new training and update many existing courses for the civilian acquisition workforce.”

Mobile app empowering learning anywhere

FAI’s mobile app hosts a series of modules that provide users with information, microlearning scenarios, quizzes, and more on Acquisition topics. These include Price Analysis, Contracting, and Program and Project Managers (P/PM); these modules incorporate the competencies that PowerTrain and FAI identified together, and through the quizzes, users can identify their strongest and weakest competencies.

Overall, PowerTrain provided over 2,000 hours of ISD support to FAI in the development of classroom, virtual, web-based, and mobile learning assets as well as facilitating the development and update of FAI training solutions.

Quality work exceeds expectations and gains recognition

FAI’s training enhancements included the use of unique and interactive development tools and instructional strategies, which allowed the target audience to engage with the content from any device, exceeding FAI’s initial expectations. Throughout the development and implementation process, PowerTrain flexed to meet changing needs from new systems implemented during the ongoing project. Seamless movement of resources ensured FAI received quality products on time. For our quality work, PowerTrain received the Omni Award, Bronze, and a Horizon Interactive Silver Award.
