Business Case: Chainsaw Safety Program for Non-Wildland Fire Operators

National Park Service

Employee safety, including the operation of chainsaws in and around National Park Service (NPS) units, is an important national priority for the NPS and the maintenance career field. This training provides opportunities to learn about and engage with the prerequisite material for the working-level Faller Training Course, a field-based residential course.

This project was developed to meet NPS requirements for a WBT course on the topic of chainsaw safety for the Faller Competency level.

The training included a pre- and post-test to determine the effectiveness of the training. Ten minutes of video were produced and included in the training. A Maintenance Guide was delivered after the course was developed to assist NPS in making updates to the training when necessary.
